Animated Backgrounds

Video conferencing services have become massively popular, as they allow you to virtually meet with others when in-person conversations aren’t possible. For Zoom as well as other virtual meeting platforms, this has led to the discovery of its animated backgrounds feature.

Now that people are finding themselves working remotely or setting up virtual parties to chat with friends and family while maintaining social distance, Zoom is quickly becoming the go-to source for those gatherings. But when you spend days quarantining at home, cleaning up for a Zoom call might be the last thing on your mind.

So download these fun, FREE, animated backgrounds for Zoom and add some spice to your next meeting.

There is also a special section for EDUCATORS so that you can add a little pizzazz to your next class and keep your students’ attention.

For a small fee of $25, we can create a custom, animated background for your personal use, for your school, or for your business. Contact Forrest for more details at

Instructions for Use

ZOOM Instructions (MAC)

These are the instructions for how to download and use animated virtual backgrounds for Zoom on a MAC. These instructions may not be exact if you are using a PC. I’ve tried to simplify the instructions here, but if this still doesn’t make sense to you, go to the Zoom support page for virtual backgrounds. They go into much more detail.

  • Find the animated background you like and then download the background to your computer.
  • Save this video clip on your computer in a place that you will not be moving it. For example, create a ‘background‘ sub-folder within your Documents folder (MAC), or create a ‘background’ folder on your C: drive (PC)
  • Open Zoom.
  • Choose PREFERENCES from the Zoom Menu
  • Select VIRTUAL BACKGROUND from the Preference Menu
  • Select click on the tiny (+) symbol, and then select ADD VIDEO

You should now have your animated background running in Zoom. Load as many virtual background clips as you would like. Just remember DO NOT MOVE THE VIDEO FILES on your computer once they have been loaded into Zoom as they need to stay in the same place for the program to find them. If you do move the files, simply repeat STEP 6 to help Zoom locate the file in the new location.

These are great! I am a middle school teacher, and these backgrounds will be great, as we are starting off the year virtually!

That is so great that you are going to be able to use these. I've gotten many responses from teachers, so I am going to expand on the educational backgrounds to give you many more options.

    Now isn't it some idea!

    Cindy Godfrey-McKay

These are cool. Are there any nice Christmas backgrounds please? Thanks, Cindy

      Forrest Mallard

That is a great idea! Unfortunately I have no time to create anything like this this season... but check back and I promise to have something available for Christmas / Winter for next time.

These are great! How do you download them for use on Windows-based computers? Thank you!

      Forrest Mallard

There is a download button under each video listed on this page. Save to your computer in a place that you can reference it when you want to use it for your Zoom chat. There are detailed instructions here on this page.

Hi! I'm Forrest Mallard

In 2005, I moved to Quito, Ecuador with $35 in my pocket and a small handful of online clients. Fifteen years and five continents later, there were moments of absolute glamour, as well as a number of brutal rough patches. But I always felt that a horrible day of travel is infinitely more preferable than a great day at the office. Oh the stories I could tell, and I will try to do that here in Tramposaurus Treks. You'll have access to the good times, the horrifying times, and a few well-deserved moments of travel glamour.
