PERSONAL FAVORITES

What are my FAVORITE HIKING TRAILS?

  • West Highland Way (Scotland)
My first long-distance hiking trail. You’ll never forget your first time.
  • Camino de Santiago (Spain)
Not only the most history-rich hiking trail in the world, but also where I met my ‘Camino Family.’
  • Slovenian Mountain Trail (Slovenia)
Still the most beautiful trail I have ever walked. Slovenia is filled with beautiful nature, lovely people, rich culture, the Alps… and it is still inexpensive!
  • Old Rag (Virginia)
My first hike ever. I didn’t even know I was hiking. I just knew I loved it! I want to go back.
  • Snake Gorge (Oman)
Half hike / Half Ultimate Warrior Survival test. You start at the top of a canyon. 6 hours later, you are at the bottom. Only way down is repeated jumping from cliffs into deep pools of water far below.

PLACES I’VE LIVED

  • Hollywood, Florida (HOMETOWN)
  • Paris Island, SC
  • Camp Pendleton, CA
  • Okinawa, Japan
  • Cherry Point, NC
  • Iwakuni, Japan
  • Olongapo, Philippines
  • Washington, DC
  • New York City
  • Quito, Ecuador
  • Istanbul, Turkey
  • Bangkok, Thailand
  • Johannesburg, South Africa
  • Dubai, United Arab Emirates

TATTOO I WANT

The Fool

This was the first Tarot card that was ever pulled for me.
It was explained that this card meant:

  • that I take risks and people try to warn me not to (barking dog)
  • that I often fall down (walking off cliff) but I always get back up and keep going
  • that I most often will find the positive things in life (looking up)
  • unaware of the extreme challenges that are before me (not looking down)

What also makes this image personal to me:

  • he dresses in flamboyant, tattered cloths (no care what anyone thinks about it)
  • he is carrying a sack with his things (essentially backpacking)
  • he has a dog
  • he’s in the mountains

Hi! I'm Forrest Mallard

In 2005, I moved to Quito, Ecuador with $35 in my pocket and a small handful of online clients. Fifteen years and five continents later, there were moments of absolute glamour, as well as a number of brutal rough patches. But I always felt that a horrible day of travel is infinitely more preferable than a great day at the office. Oh the stories I could tell, and I will try to do that here in Tramposaurus Treks. You'll have access to the good times, the horrifying times, and a few well-deserved moments of travel glamour.
